Missing hiker found in Upper Peirce Reservoir after 45 hours
A 76-year-old man was lost while tracking in Upper Peirce Reservoir for almost two full days before he was finally found on Monday (Sept 7) afternoon.
Mr Ng Kang Leng, who is an avid hiker, had set off on a trek from Dairy Farm Road on Saturday (Sept 5) afternoon.
He had planned to trek to MacRitchie Reservoir but got lost along the way.
Just before 7pm that day, he called the police, saying he was lost.
However, as it was his first time attempting that route, Mr Ng could not provide specific details of his whereabouts. He could only tell the police that at 3pm, he had passed the Eco-Link bridge near the Bukit Timah Expressway.
A total of 200 officers from the police, the National Parks Board and PUB were deployed to search for the missing man as the search area was very wide.
The officers combed both the Central Catchment Nature Reserve and the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.
At 3.40pm on Monday (Sept 7), they found him in the vicinity of Upper Peirce Reservoir.
He was conveyed to Ng Teng Fong hospital and reunited with his family.
NParks advised the public to stay on the designated trails while trekking and call the NParks helpline at 1800-471 7300 (Toll-free) if they encounter any problems.
