The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has called out fake information being circulated over social media that it had declared Friday (Sept 25) to be a "Voluntary Non-work Day" due to the worsening haze situation.

It issued a statement on Facebook saying: "It has come to our attention that a post claiming to be from MOM, regarding the haze, has been circulating.

The rumours began appearing on Thursday night as the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) hit 219-270 in the unhealthy range at 9pm, prompting the Ministry of Education to close primary and secondary schools as a precaution.

On Friday, the 3-hour PSI reading hit a high of 341 at 5am.

While it reiterated that there was "no national shutdown of workplaces", MOM emphasised that employers must ensure the health and safety of their workers especially if they are involved in outdoor work.
