10 winners picked for TNP's NDP50 photo contest
He was enjoying the aerial display during one of the National Day Parade rehearsals last month when an awestruck girl in the crowd caught his attention.
Realising how much her captivated look captured the mood of the crowd, Mr Chua Cong Wei, a 30-year-old engineer, immediately picked up his Canon 70D camera and snapped a picture of the young girl.
"She was looking up attentively at the planes. I felt that her expression captured the moment of the parade and celebrations. It was a priceless shot to me," he said.
Mr Chua's photo was picked to as one of the 10 winners of The New Paper's NDP50 photo contest.
We had asked readers to submit pictures of themselves with their family and friends celebrating NDP50.
Mr Chua was pleasantly surprised when he was told last evening of his win.
He and the nine other winners will each get a $100 voucher for Pizza Hut or KFC.
Another winner, Ms Joyce Nang, a 43-year-old civil servant, submitted a picture of her mother and herself at a National Day Observance Ceremony at Teck Ghee (below).
"My mother, who used to be with the grassroots, attends the observance ceremony every year," said Ms Nang.
"This was my first time going with her and I felt proud to be a Singaporean after seeing everyone come together to sing songs, recite the Pledge and play games."
Winners may collect their vouchers at TNP office in Toa Payoh North during office hours today or on Thursday.
