Rebecca Lim's wardrobe malfunction was a photoshop hoax

This article is more than 12 months old

The picture, uploaded to Instagram, showed her smiling and taking a selfie while dressed in a red sleeve-less dress.

The image of Rebecca Lim was then taken and doctored earlier this week.

The new image that made its rounds on the internet made it look like Lim had exposed her breast.

The local actress, who was overseas at that time, spoke out upon her return to SIngapore yesterday (Aug 13).

She told Lianhe Zaobao: "My family all knew that the photo was photoshopped so they were all behind me, supporting me.

"I don't know who did it but I will not be taking legal action myself.

"But I'm not sure if my company will take legal action or not.

"Now my hope is for this (false) picture to be taken off the Internet."

She later took to Instagram to post the original picture( shown above) and appeal to those behind the indecent image.

She wrote: "Thank you everyone for your concern and support, especially to my loved ones who are innocent and unfortunately placed in such an embarrassing and distressing situation.

"To you-who-did-it and the people spreading it, shall we stop spreading negativity and lies?"

When contacted by Zaobao, Lim's rumoured beau, Shanghai-born locally based actor Ian Fang said that when he first saw the photoshopped picture, he knew it had been doctored.

"Rebecca is an intelligent girl, she would never have done something so careless.

"And it wasn't possible that the people around her wouldn't tell her about such an obvious wardrobe malfunction if there indeed was one."

The practice of creating fake wardrobe malfunctions or nude pictures is not uncommon.

In 2010, topless pictures of Emma Watson were circulating on the Internet.

Her spokesman immediately came to her defense and said that these photos were doctored.

“There have been a number of nude fakes over the past two months.

"Emma has seen them and finds them tiresome. People should know better.”

2. Kate Upton

Last March, a celebrity joke website posted the misleading headline “Kate Upton Naked Outtake From SI Swimsuit 2014".

The site had carried pictures from Kate Upton’s 2014 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit shoot that had been doctored to make it look like she was topless.

The actress' lawyers smacked the site with a righteous cease-and-desist letter.

3. Ariana Grande

Last April Fools’, the hashtag #ArianasNudesLeaked started trending on Twitter as thousands rushed towards the promise of leaked nude photos of the singer.

The pictures in question were of her on the beach and with a big bar across her chest.

They had implied that she had been photographed topless. It was not the case.
