Rui En charged with careless driving, plans to plead guilty
Local TV actress Rui En was charged in court with careless driving yesterday.
Rui En, whose real name is Lu Rui En, 35, is accused of one count of driving without due care and attention at a Clementi Avenue 2 carpark, near Block 331, on April 12.
She allegedly failed to control her black BMW, mounted a kerb and collided with a parked motorcycle belonging to Mr Bahrom Sarmiten, 52, at about 4.15pm that day.
Yesterday, Rui En turned up at the State Courts in a white top and black pants with a white jacket.
She was also wearing an Hermes belt buckle and Valentino shoes while carrying an Hermes Lindy bag.
She was accompanied by two women, who are believed to be a friend and colleague from Hype Records.
In court, she appeared calm when the charge was read to her.
No plea was taken from the actress, who told the court she intended to plead guilty, but would not be engaging a lawyer.
She kept her head down and left the courtroom as soon as the hearing was over.
When approached by reporters outside the courtroom, she said: "Thank you for everyone's concern."
She declined to comment further saying it was not convenient.
Rui En - who received the highest Star Awards accolade, the All-Time Favourite Artiste, in April - told the audience during the ceremony she was sorry for causing inconvenience to everyone.
She also expressed gratitude to her bosses and colleagues at management company Hype Records, who she said stood by her even though she was in the wrong.
The actress also thanked her ardent fans for never forsaking her.
The accident sparked off an online brouhaha after it was reported that the first thing Rui En had allegedly told Mr Bahrom was: "Do you know who I am?"
She has since apologised for those remarks to Mr Bahrom, who earlier told The New Paper he had accepted her apology.
Rui En is expected to be back in court on July 1.
If convicted, she can be fined up to $1,000, jailed up to six months, or both.
