Singaporean woman found dead after scuba diving in Indonesia
A 27-year-old Singaporean woman was found dead in Indonesian waters yesterday after she went missing on a scuba-diving trip.
Ms Neo Qiu Ping Vera was reported missing on Sunday after she did not return from diving at Gili Lawa, an island north-east of Komodo.
Indonesian publication Pos Kupang reported yesterday that Ms Neo was diving with 10 other people.
The group had set out for the dive site on Saturday on a cruise boat that was managed by tour company Komodo Trails.
RETURNED
After diving the next day at around 5pm, all the others returned to the boat. But Ms Neo did not surface.
The boat's captain waited for an hour before alerting the authorities. As it was already dark, search-and-rescue operations started only the next morning.
The Straits Times reported that The National Search and Rescue Agency Republic of Indonesia found Ms Neo's body near the dive site at 10.55am yesterday.
As of yesterday evening, her body was still at a hospital in Indonesia.
