Update: One dead, seven hurt after multiple explosions in Jurong
Explosions rocked an industrial district in Tanjong Kling, off Pioneer Road, on Monday (Oct 12) morning.
Workers near the affected plant, Leeden National Oxygen Ltd, said they heard multiple explosions from around 9.30am.
It is understood the company's staff were evacuated to Natsteel's premises opposite the plant.
The New Paper understands at least three workers were rushed to the National University Hospital.
The road leading to the plant was lined with dozens of vehicles from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
One person was pronounced dead at scene by SCDF paramedic.
Seven casualties were taken to hospital, five to National University Hospital, two to Ng Teng Fong Hospital.
Injuries included lacerations, smoke inhalation and burn injuries.
An SCDF statement said:
"Upon SCDF's arrival, the fire had engulfed a laboratory measuring about 7m by 5m, in close proximity to a production and storage area.
SCDF immediately deployed four water jets to contain the fire within the laboratory and prevented it from spreading to the nearby flammable cylinders storage area.
Concurrently, SCDF personnel equipped with breathing apparatus sets conducted search operations within the premises."
