Wake money to go to Sabah guides

This article is more than 12 months old

The family of 12-year-old Rachel Ho, one of the Singapore schoolchildren who died in the Sabah earthquake, will be channelling all donations from her wake to Malaysian mountain guides at the disaster site.

Her father, Mr James Ho, told The Straits Times that the family had received generous contributions from friends and family who attended the wake.

"Coming from a blessed background, we felt we could reach out to those who are more in need during these difficult times and it would have been Rachel's wishes as well," Mr Ho said.

"The money would go a long way for the Malaysian guides who now have no income and still have families to feed. It is our way of thanking them for risking their lives to help the students and teachers of Tanjong Katong Primary School after the disaster," he added.

Mr Ho declined to reveal the amount to be donated.

The family has approached the school principal to link up with the guides.
