A 55-year-old accounts assistant was jailed 30 months on Wednesday (Dec 2) for embezzling $237,000 from her company over five years.

Cheang Wai Ling, 55, had admitted to two counts of criminal breach of trust, with three other charges taken into consideration for sentencing.

Court papers said Cheang was employed by SUTL Marina Development and was working as an accounts assistant at Oneº15 Marina Club, a yacht club and leisure hub owned by SUTL Marina Development.

As part of her job, Cheang was able to wire money from the club's bank account to customers' credit cards in the event they asked for refunds.

She misused that ability to wire money to her and her husband's credit cards on 237 occasions over five years.

For each charge of criminal breach of trust, Cheang could have been jailed up to 15 years with a fine.
