CNB warns of WhatsApp money scam

This article is more than 12 months old

The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has warned the public to be wary of a bogus CNB officer requesting money via WhatsApp.

In a statement yesterday, the bureau said there have been incidents where a person or people impersonated a CNB officer and messaged people via WhatsApp.

The "officer" claims that the victim has "cases with CNB" and attempts to ask for money.

CNB will be working with the police to investigate, it said.

"CNB would like to advise the public that CNB officers are not allowed to request for any favours in money or in kind," it said.

And officers are not allowed to threaten anyone for money to "facilitate a case".

If you suspect you have been a victim of such an attempt, you can contact the CNB at 1800-325-6666 or e-mail CNB_Feedback@cnb.gov.sg
