Crowdfunding campaigns by Singaporeans
1. KDF MILLENNIUM RIDE 2016
The third iteration of the Kidney Dialysis Foundation's annual cycling marathon will involve a team of 60 cyclists covering 1,000km over the span of four days. Funds raised will go towards helping KDF patients undergoing dialysis treatments.
2. HELP FOR BABY YUJIA
Last June, netizens were gripped by the story of Xie Yujia, then 21 months old, who suffered a host of health problems. Yujia's biggest problem was that she could not eat - her food pipe was not connected to her stomach. Her mother Madam Chua, 31, turned to GIVEasia to raise money for a reconstructive surgery.
3. HELP THE FAMILY OF MR KENNY TAN
In just two days, more than $200,000 was raised to bring home the body of Mr Kenny Tan, 30, who died in Holland on Sept 14. His friend, Mr Zach Lim, started two crowdfunding campaigns on Indiegogo and GIVEasia, and donations came pouring in. The remainder of the money will be used to support Mr Tan's widow and his son.
4. ARIFFIN TAHIR WEDDING FUND
Last December, Mr Ariffin Tahir, 18, made an appeal on GIVEasia to have his "dream wedding" with his 23-year-old girlfriend. On the campaign page, he says that getting these donations "means the difference between getting married in 2016 or not." The campaign ended successfully, raising more than $36,000.
5. WE WILL DANCE 2015
More than 400 people raised $1,720 on GIVEasia for last year's We Will Dance, a fund-raising dance marathon. Proceeds from the event were given to Care Corner Family Service Centre (Queenstown) and SPD (formerly known as the Society for the Physically Disabled).
6. WHERE IS THE RAISIN: A DOCUMENTARY-- PHOTOS: INDIEGOGO, GIVEASIA
A group of final-year students from Nanyang Technological University started an Indiegogo campaign to fund their documentary, which seeks to encourage better understanding for the visually impaired.
