Jail, caning for man who slashed girlfriend in Tampines attack
A construction worker was jailed four years and given nine strokes of the cane on Thursday (Feb 11) for slashing his girlfriend's neck and face at an HDB void deck in Tampines in August 2015.
Palaiyan Murugadass, 41, an Indian national, pleaded guilty to one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a weapon after attacking his ex-girlfriend, Ms Adolfo Allen Remedio, 38, a Filipino national who was working as a maid here.
Court papers said Palaiyan and Ms Remedio were in a relationship from 2013 till July 2015, when she broke up with him.
On Aug 23, 2015, he armed himself with a penknife and waited for her near her employer's home.
When she showed up, he threatened to kill her before slashing her neck and left cheek, leaving her permanently disfigured.
