Man, 51, caned and molested underage stepdaughter
Man jailed for molesting underage stepdaughter
He caned his underage stepdaughter, not because she was naughty but because she would not submit to his sick sexual urges.
When they were alone at home in 2011, he went to the bedroom where she was watching television and locked the door.
He told the girl to take off her shirt and scolded her when she refused. When she kept quiet, he took a cane and beat her.
As she cried, he forcibly removed all her clothes and molested her. Her ordeal lasted for about 10 minutes before she was allowed to get dressed.
On another occasion that year, he pulled the girl towards him and forcefully removed her panties. He then pushed her to the floor and molested her for about five minutes.
Yesterday, the 51-year-old man was sentenced to 18 months' jail on each of the two counts of outrage of modesty.
District Judge Ng Peng Hong ordered the two penalties to run concurrently.
AGGRAVATING
Before passing sentence, Judge Ng said he had taken into account the aggravating factors such as how the man took advantage of the girl while she was alone and his "multiple acts of indiscretion".
The molester cannot be named to protect the identity of his victim, who is now 12 years old.
The man, who turned up in court yesterday in a wheelchair, pleaded for a light sentence. He showed Mr Ng documents of his medical ailments.
The court was told that at the time of the molests in 2011, he was jobless because of his medical problems.
His wife, whom he married in 2009, worked office hours and his other teenage stepchildren returned home only at night. He was usually alone at home with the victim when she got back from school in the afternoon.
The molests were reported to the police by the Ministry of Family and Social Services in October 2013.
It was not stated how the incidents had come to light.
For assaulting and using criminal force on a person under 14 years of age in order to outrage her modesty, the man could have been jailed for up to five years, fined, caned or any combination of the above.
