Man jailed 1 year for stealing bonsai plants
A 51-year-old man was jailed a year on Wednesday (Feb 24) for stealing nine bonsai plants worth $12,400.
Teo Tiong Guan stole from a community centre garden, a residents' corner garden and the corridor outside someone's HDB flat in Jurong -- all within a month in 2015.
His modus operandi was to pluck the plants from their pots, pack them in plastic bags and return home, where he would proudly display the stolen plants in his own pots.
Teo pleaded guilty to two counts of house-trespass in order to commit theft, with three other charges taken into consideration for sentencing.
