New information display for buses on two-month trial: LTA

A new information display panel for buses is on trial, and it can provide commuters with on-route information.

The graphic display will show the current bus stop, upcoming ones and the destination. The Passenger Information Display System (Pids) was put on a two-month trial by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), from yesterday.

It will be available on a MAN A22 bus which runs the 106 route operated by Tower Transit. It starts plying in Bukit Batok and ends in Shenton Way.

Some buses already feature an LED dot matrix panel which informs commuters where the next stop is and when the bus is stopping.

The LTA said Pids can be used to provide commuters with more real-time information, such as messages regarding MRT disruptions and traffic congestion.

Audio announcements can also help the visually impaired or senior citizens.

The LTA said: "Such real-time information allows commuters to make more informed decisions on the go, and a better travelling experience for their public transport commute."

Commuters can provide feedback on the new display at www.lta.gov.sg/feedback

"The feedback will help LTA understand what commuters would like to see in Pids before its eventual roll-out," it said. - THE STRAITS TIMES
