Six years on, project reaches out to more

Project GroomOver is an initiative by the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) that gathers volunteers to help needy elderly residents in the Henderson and Bukit Merah areas.

Now in its sixth year, it is reaching out to more homes than ever before.

This year, a record number of 400 volunteers, comprising doctors, nurses, allied health and administrative staff, partners and students, will clean 40 homes and make them elderly-friendly.

The homes were "handpicked by medical social workers, grassroots leaders and workers at the Kreta Ayer Seniors Activity Centre", said Madam Mumtaj Ibrahim, Community Relations Manager of SGH.

Project GroomOver is part of a month-long Lunar Celebrations at SGH.

Activities such as reunion dinners and lion dances will be arranged for the residents.

"It's not just about helping patients at the hospital but going beyond the hospital walls to help those in need," Madam Mumtaj said.
