Three people were killed and 34 injured yesterday when a "mentally unbalanced" man drove a 4x4 into a busy street in the southern Austrian city of Graz.

Witnesses said the car was travelling at more than 100kmh when it hurtled onto Herrengasse, a pedestrian shopping street in the country's second largest city, APA news agency reported.

The 26-year-old driver was detained after losing control of the vehicle, said governor Hermann Schuetzenhoefer.

Of the injured, the condition of 10 people is "serious".

The death toll from India's latest incident of alcohol poisoning following the consumption of toxic homemade liquor rose to 84, Mumbai police said.

Police deputy commissioner Dhananjay Kulkarni said the toll was expected to rise further.

Victims started to fall ill on Wednesday morning after consuming the illegal booze and patients were still being admitted to hospital yesterday, he said.

Five people have so far been arrested for distributing and selling the alcohol in a slum in the suburb of Malad West, in the north of the city.

Eight police officers have also been suspended for "negligence" for allowing the sale to take place on their patch, the deputy commissioner said.

A police statement said: "Flying an unmanned aircraft without the appropriate permit may pose a threat to public safety and security especially in areas where there are large crowds."
