Special lanes for cyclists, please
I refer to the report, "Cars may go out of fashion: Khaw" (The New Paper, Sept 17).
National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan said in his blog that cars are on their way out in some European cities, and mentioned cycling as one of the alternatives that people, especially the young, are increasingly adopting.
Indeed, countries such as Denmark and the Netherlands have lanes specially for bicycles. And I don't see why we can't introduce them too.
Instead of widening the expressways, the Land Transport Authority should make space for cyclists.
If Singapore roads have dedicated lanes that make cycling safe for the public, more people may buy bicycles instead of cars.
If Mr Khaw can make this a reality, it will be a cyclist's dream come true.
