S'pore vs M'sia comedy face-off: Who's the funniest?

This article is more than 12 months old

Who has the best comedians, Singapore or Malaysia?

Comedians from both sides of the Causeway will appear on the same stage to tickle the audience's funny bone. But there's more at stake than just getting the audience to laugh.

National pride and bragging rights are up for grabs as Gurmit Singh and company take part in the Laugh Die You show in Kuala Lumpur next month.

The event, touted as the first of its kind in Malaysia, will be held at the HGH Convention Centre from May 14-15, The Star reported.

Singh will be hosting the two-and-a-half-hour show in the guise of iconic Ah Beng contractor, Mr Phua Chu Kang.

Riffing on his famous catchphrase, Singh said:

“Be prepared as well to be entertained by the best in Singapore, JB and some say even Batam!”

Among the face-offs: Malaysian stand-up comedian Douglas Lim will take on Singapore’s motormouth drag queen Kumar.

The organisers of Laugh Die You – a direct translation of a Cantonese phrase siu sei lei and means “to laugh until you die” – expect at least 4,000 people at the venue.
