Strangers pay for wedding gifts and honeymoon of Seattle hero who tackled gunman
Strangers have gone out their way to thank Jon Meis, the student credited with subduing the gunman at Seattle Pacific University last week.
He tackled Aaron Ybarra, after he had already killed one person and injured three others. Meis had reportedly doused him with pepper spray.
Meis was then hailed as a hero soon after the attack. And saying thanks wasn't enough.
Meis, who is soon to be married, had set up a gift registry weeks before the incident where friends and family can buy him wedding gifts.
The link to the registry was soon passed around on Reddit and by the next day, all the items in the registry were purchased for Meis and his fiancee.
And that wasn't enough.
Someone else started a crowdfunding campaign to pay for the couple's honeymoon.
It's goal was to raise US$5,000.
But in just over 24 hours, almost US$35,000 had been raised.
