All seven suspects detained in connection with the murder of Estonian freelance model Regina Soosalu have been released on police bail.

Her family had taken custody of her remains on Friday and the body has already been flown back to Estonia, Malaysian newspaper The Star reported.

Johor CID chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Datuk Hasnan Hassan said the suspects were released under Section 388 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The section provides for any person charged with a non-bailable offence to be released on bail if that person is under the age of 16, is a woman, is sick or infirm.

He said: “Police have completed investigations relating to the case and we have forwarded our findings to the Public Prosecutor."

Soosalu was found dead while vacationing with her boyfriend, a member of Johor royalty, on Pulau Rawa, off Mersing, on July 1.

Police initially believed that the 23-year-old model had drowned.

Her body was discovered on a stretch of beach along the island on the day she arrived.

They later investigated the case as possible murder after discovering suspicious wounds on the body.

Police have yet to release the actual cause of death although a post-mortem has been conducted.
