She was just 18 years old when her father, Anwar Ibrahim, was sacked as deputy prime minister and charged with sodomy and corruption in 1998.

A year later, he was sentenced to six years behind bars for corruption and another nine years for sodomy in 2000.

In 2004, he was acquitted of sodomy charges only to be charged again in 2008 after another victim came forward with fresh allegations.

For eldest daughter Nurul Izzah Anwar, this roller-coaster ride is nothing new.

The mother of two, and one of Malaysia's most prominent opposition politicians, said it is an experience that no child would ever wish for.
