TNP readers win $2,500 in Bonus Challenge
When Mr Lim Boon Keng won the jackpot prize in The New Paper Bonus Challenge in August last year, he took home $8,000.
The romantic man bought a ring with the money and proposed to his girlfriend. She said yes, and the pair are now engaged, with the wedding likely to be held next year.
Yesterday, Mr Lim, 28, hit the jackpot again in the same contest, winning $1,000 this time.
Five other readers also won cash prizes, making it the most number of winners the Bonus Challenge has ever had in a day.
This time, though, Mr Lim, a logistics manager, will be using his winnings on something for himself - a fishing rod.
"I will take my family out for a meal first, maybe a buffet dinner. Then after that, I want to buy myself a fishing rod.
"It's something like a Christmas present for myself," he added.
Mr Lim said he feels a special affinity with TNP's Bonus Challenge, having won a total of $9,000 from it.
"I think I've been very lucky because I always buy the paper to read the football section," he said.
He bought a copy of the paper yesterday to check the numbers against his bonus card, he said.
When he realised he had won, he was delighted. Mr Lim shared the $2,000 jackpot prize with retiree Granville Conceicao.
The 70-year-old grandfather said it was his first time winning the Bonus Challenge in the four years since it started.
"I was reading the paper as usual when I saw the numbers, so I thought I'd check them against my card," he said.
That was when he realised he won. "I was very excited, but I didn't dare to be too excited because I wasn't sure how many people I'll have to share the prize with," he said.
Asked about what he would do with the money, Mr Conceicao said it would go to his family's Christmas dinner.
Three other TNP readers won a cash prize of $100 each.
They are Mr Patrick Cho Kok Weng, Madam Jumainah Sawi and Madam Rahamah Mohammed Idros.
For another reader, Madam Kasmawati Seman, it was double happiness - she had two winning bonus cards, which netted her $200.
The 48-year-old operations support assistant said: "It's such a pleasant surprise that all this happened so nicely."
