UPDATE: Missing S'porean trainee teacher found
He's alive and well: The Singaporean reported missing in Cambodia last week was found yesterday.
Adventure buff Sanjay Radakrishna, 26, made a solo trip to trek up Kampong Speu’s Oral Mountain. The 1,813-metre peak, also known as Phnom Aural, is the Kingdom’s largest, said The Phnom Penh Post.
He was last spotted with a local mountain guide on Tuesday.
Channel NewsAsia said the teacher trainee told his girlfriend last Monday that bad weather stopped him from climbing the mountain then. He was supposed to return home on Wednesday.
Friends said he maintained regular contact, posting updates and pictures on his Facebook. When they did not hear from him, a Facebook post made the rounds.
Football teammate Amin Ruslan told The Phnom Penh Post: “Sanjay going missing was quite a shock. He’s quite an avid mountain climber, so this trip shouldn’t have been a problem; he’s been to the base camp of Mount Everest a few times.”
Found at foot of peak
His worried friends and younger brother frantically raised money to hire a private investigator. While the Singaporean Embassy in Phnom Penh were organising a search and rescue team, local police stumbled across the man exactly where he said he would be.
“We deployed our police at the feet of Oral Mountain and were ready to send some other officers to climb the mountain to find him, but we just found him at the foot of the mountain,” said Kampong Speu’s deputy police chief Met Muth.
Mr Radakrishna was immediately taken to the Singaporean Embassy.
