US reports its first case of Mers as infection rate rises in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia has found 25 more cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (Mers) as the rate of infections rises the kingdom's health ministry said. Two more people have died from the new disease.
On Friday, seven people were confirmed as having Mers, followed by 18 more yesterday - the biggest daily increase in new infections so far.
Also on Friday, the US said it had discovered its first confirmed case of the disease in a man who had recently been in Saudi Arabia.
The health-care worker arrived in Chicago about a week ago from Riyadh, where he could have picked up the virus, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. - Reuters.
