WATCH: Japan's experimental maglav trains can hit up to 500kmh

Members of the public in Japan have experienced the blistering speed of maglav trains during test runs in central Japan.

The test runs have seen one hundred passengers zipping between the cities of Uenohara and Fuefuki which are 42.8km apart, clocking speeds of up to 500kmh.

The experimental maglav Shinkansen trains, that uses magnetic levitation, travel faster than Japan's renowned bullet trains, which travel at about 320kmh.

During the journey, some passengers were seen snapping photographs to capture the moment.

The train's speed was shown on a screen and as it clocked 500kmh, a few of the passengers broke out in cheers.

The Central Japan Railway Company is running eight days of testing for the experimental train.
