WATCH: Passengers fear for their lives during extreme turbulence, 14 injured

Shortly after taking off from Seoul, South Korea, an American Airlines jet encountered serious turbulence forcing it to make an emergency landing at Narita International Airport in Tokyo.

American Flight 280 was en route to Dallas-Fort Worth on Tuesday (Dec 16) when the incident happened, injuring 14 passengers.

Gripping footage captures passengers screaming in fear.

One of the passengers can be overheard saying: "I love my family. I love my family very much."

When the plane landed, four passengers and a crew member were taken to hospital for treatment.  

A statement released by American Airlines stated that none of the passengers suffered life-threatening injuries.
