Wife beat and punched him after he lost his job

This article is more than 12 months old

A Malaysian man tolerated six months of physical abuse from his wife before he finally lodged a police report against her.

The 32-year-old man, who only wanted to be known as Borhan, said that the abuse started after he lost his job and could not longer provide for his family.

"My wife punched and kicked me almost every day until my body was full of bruises. There was once she punched me in my face and my nose bled profusely," he told Malaysian daily Harian Metro.

The father of two said that he was ashamed to tell anyone about the abuse. Borhan said that his wife was never physically abusive until he lost his job and could not afford to pay the bills.

"She used harsh words against me, calling me a useless man," said the man from Kuala Selangor.

Borhan continued: "I took on odd jobs but it was not enough. Her parents and family would always defend her and get involved when I tried to defend myself."
