He died yesterday (May 28). But for his victims - some of whom were as young as four years old - the horror lives on.

Li Jishun had raped or sexually abused 26 children when he was a teacher from 2011 to 2012.

He committed the crimes in dormitories or classrooms -  taking advantage of 26 girls aged four to 11 years old.

Li was put to death on Thursday by a court in Tianshui, in the northwestern province of Gansu.

Took advantage of childish and timid children

He was handed the heaviest punishment possible because of the harm caused to the children and the “extremely negative social impact” of the case, AFP reported, citing Xinhua news agency.

“He took advantage of those who were both childish and timid," Xinhua said.

Child sexual abuse cases have risen in recent years, China’s Supreme People’s Court (SPC) said.

It also published the details of four other cases involving sexual abuse of minors.

In one case, a man raped five girls in a school dormitory. He was given a death sentence reprieved for two years.
