Fire destroys woman's life in Klang
A Malaysian woman's life was burnt to the ground after a fire killed three of her family members.
The Star Online reported that Ms Cheong Chai Fong, 52, was away from her home in Klang, Selangor and at her processed coconut milk shop on Friday when her home caught fire, trapping her husband Goh Meng Huat, 70, daughter Sim Yen, 33, and seven-year-old grandson Tan Jia Wai inside.
A panicked Sim Yen managed to phone her mother during the incident at Kampung Teluk Rhu in Sabak Bernam, but Ms Cheong was powerless to stop the fire.
None of them survived while the semi-wooden building was razed in the process.
Ms Cheong's other daughter, Ms Goh Mei Leng, said: "My mother’s life turned empty overnight with her husband of 34 years gone.
"We are all devastated."
The grieving widow was to temporarily halt her business and move to Kuala Lumpur with another daughter.
Sim Yen is survived by her husband and two children, 15-year-old daughter Tan Wan Xin and 13-year-old son Tan Ka Hao.
The Malaysian Chinese Association chairman in Sabak Bernam has promised to help Ms Cheong and her family.
Datuk George Kee Ah Kau, who has visited the family and presented Wan Xin a RM1,000 (S$374) cheque, said: "We’ll discuss with the village head, state assemblyman and the MP to help the family get aid from the Welfare Department, including allocations to rebuild the house."
