Flash floods in JB: Vehicles submerged, traffic at a standstill

A downpour resulted in massive flash floods in Johor Baru on Monday (Nov 16) afternoon.

Jalan Wong Ah Fook, a major one-way road in the city where popular shopping malls Johor Baru City Square​ and Komtar JBCC are located, was one of the worst hit areas.

Photos of the road posted on social media showed cars almost fully submerged.

The rain started at 11am and continued pouring down for about two hours.

Many basement carparks in Johor's capital were flooded and traffic at all major roads leading into the city was at a standstill.

According to Johor Works Department Facebook page, heavy rainfall with a full high tide occurring simultaneously resulted in the flash flood.

It advised road users who wished to go to the city to postpone their trip temporarily.
