Man kidnaps toddler to produce child porn

This article is more than 12 months old

He pretended to befriend the California family and stayed overnight at their home.

But the Colorado man had a more sinister intent.

Shawn McCormack, 31, would sneak their toddler out of the home in the middle of the night on several occasions.

He then recorded himself sexually abusing the child at locations including his truck and a nearby motel — before returning to the house ahead of the couple waking in the morning, the US Department of Justice said in a statement.

Prosecutors said McCormack sexually abused the child to produce pornography that he shared online.

He was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday (Oct 13), prosecutors said.

Assistant US Attorney General for the Justice Department’s criminal division Leslie Caldwell called McCormack’s crimes “depraved... the stuff of nightmares.”

An undercover investigator with the Toronto Police Services saw the images.

McCormack also recorded and distributed his sexual abuse of a second child.

Here are three other child porn cases:

A 23-year-old Malaysian student was sentenced to five years' jail by a British court for possessing over 30,000 images and videos of child pornography.

Nor Nordin arrived in the United Kingdom last year after winning a scholarship to study at Imperial College London.

The offences, as reported in the British media, included the possession of indecent images and videos of minors, and “intent to distribute the material”.

It was also reported that he faces the possibility of immediate deportation upon his release from jail.

The British press reported that Nordin was caught in a raid on his London house on Nov 20 last year.

The raid netted some 600 videos and photos.

Malaysians including Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin joined the chorus of voices who are against giving him a second chance.

December 2013

Australian Peter Truong, 36, and his partner Mark Newton, 42, bought a newborn boy from Russia for US$8,000 (S$10,000), and allowed men around the world to abuse him.

The assaults were recorded and distributed across a global paedophile web source.

Truong was sentenced to 30 years' jail and Newton was given the maximum term of 40 years by the US law court.

2010 and 2012

Former Ministry of Education scholar Jonathan Wong Wai Kheong downloaded child porn while he was an undergraduate at the University of York in England.

His secret hoard of lengthy and graphic movies featured girls as young as six.

Wong was stripped of his scholarship, expelled from university and given a six-month suspended jail sentence. He was also put on Britain’s sex offenders registry.

Back in Singapore, he courted more trouble by sexually grooming a 15-year-old choir mate and having sex with her.

He was jailed for five years.
