Migrants use emergency exit of moving plane to escape
An Alitalia passenger plane was taxiing towards the runway for take-off when the emergency exits opened.
Three Algerians forced open the exit and apparently slid down the slides which were activated and escaped, Mail Online reported.
They are still on the run.
The incident happened at Rome’s main Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport late on Wednesday night.
The plane was immediately grounded and police called to the scene.
The three Algerians had left the capital Algiers and had one-way tickets to Istanbul after a layover in Rome, the spokesman said.
They had earlier been denied entry to Italy, along with 18 other Algerians, according to media reports.
Up to 500 Algerians may have absconded from the airport last year, the Corriere della Sera newspaper reported.
