A woman in China reportedly fell to her death after being pushed by her two-year-old son.

Her body was found at the bottom of the lift shaft of an apartment complex in the city of Ningbo.

The incident happened on Saturday (April 18) shortly after 9am.

The victim, known only as Madam Xie, had dropped her keys between the lift gap and had sought assistance from building manager Yang Shao.

'Where is your mum'

Madam Xie, her son and Ms Yang took the lift to the fifth floor and got out.

Ms Yang, 52, then sent the lift to the sixth floor while keeping the lift doors open.

According to Ms Yang, she then cautioned Madam Xie to be careful.

When she did not get a reply, she turned around and saw that the 45-year-old woman was gone.

Said Ms Yang: "I saw the kid, grabbed him and asked him, 'Where is your mum'. He said, 'I pushed mum down'."

'My wife is dead'

Ms Yang later admitted she wasn't supposed to keep the lift doors open while it was in operation.

Mirror quoted a police spokesman as saying: "Unfortunately there is no surveillance footage on that floor apart from inside the lifts so we have no way of really knowing what happened.

"But if the boy says he pushed her then we will have to accept that, although we won’t be pressing charges as this was certainly an accident."

The victim's husband told CZTV: "The thing that makes me the saddest is that my wife is dead and my young son will have to live with this for the rest of his life."
