A knife-wielding robber in Sabah, Malaysia, found out the hard way that crime does not pay.

He tried to rob a nurse but the plucky victim not only fought him off but also managed to grab the weapon and stab him.

Semporna district police chief Supt Peter Umbuas said the nurse had boarded an illegal taxi driven by the suspect after she finished work at a private clinic on Monday night (Sept 28).

But the driver changed direction midway, saying he wanted to pick up a friend, newspaper Star Online reported.

Supt Peter said in a statement yesterday (Sept 30):

"When they reached Jalan Kampung Keramat, the man pulled out a knife and pointed it at the victim's thighs.

"The victim then struggled with the suspect and managed to wrest the knife from him before stabbing him in the stomach."

The suspect then ordered the victim to get out of the vehicle, before fleeing with several of her items including her handbag.

Police are now looking for the suspect and have requested any clinic that receives a patient with a stab wound in the stomach to contact the nearest police station or the police headquarters in Semporna.
