Ryan Reynolds' close friend's betrayal: 'It was like a death'

Finding out that a friend he trusted had betrayed him was "like a death" for Ryan Reynolds.

After welcoming a baby girl, James, with his wife Blake Lively earlier this year, the Deadpool star decided to share his joy by sending photos of his child to the people closest to him.

But when others started getting their hands on the photos, Reynolds did his own investigation and found out that a childhood friend of his had been selling them.

The 38-year-old told GQ that he was shocked to discover that a friend he had known for 25 years was behind the deed.

“A guy that I’d known for my whole life — one of my closest friends growing up — he had been shopping pictures of my baby around. I kind of got in front of it, which is good. But it was a slightly dark period. A bad couple of weeks.”

He added: "It was like a death. It was like one of those devastating things to find out."

A "strongly worded argument" broke out when Reynolds confronted his friend, whom he believed betrayed him for money.

“Yeah, just for money. I don’t think he thought he would ever be caught. But it’s a pretty narrow group of people that I would send photos like that to. They’re just, like, my closest family and my closest friends," said Reynolds.

Reynolds does not regret his decision to end the friendship.

"There isn’t really a conversation to have. It’s just, ‘Oh, well, now I’m never going to see you or talk to you again, unfortunately.’”

Reynolds and Lively, who wed in 2012, did eventually give the world a glimpse of the newest addition to the family.

In June, Lively uploaded a photo of her husband with baby James to Instagram with a special Father's Day message.
