Sweet revenge: Rhonda Rousey beats Floyd Mayweather

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

US boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr learnt this the hard way after a flippant remark he made about female fighter Ronda Rousey last year.

Rousey is one of the most recognisable names in the fighting world, current UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion and has had roles in the films Furious 7 and Entourage.

Sbnation reported that Mayweather was asked what he thought of the possibility of Rousey beating him in a ring.

His response?

"Actually, I don't even know who he is."

Netizens speculated that he deliberately pretended to not know who Rousey was and even got her gender wrong on purpose.

But Mayweather may now be regretting that he mocked Rousey.

The female fighter called him out on it after she beat him and other male fighters to win at the Best Fighter award at the ESPYS yesterday (July 15).

ESPYS stands for Excellence In Sports Performance Yearly and the awards are given out by US TV network ESPN.

Huffington Post reported that Rousey even took the opportunity make a barbed reference to Mayweathers long history of domestic violence against women.

Rousey said of her win: "I wonder how Floyd feels being beat by a woman for once.

"I'd like for him to pretend to not know who I am now."

Mayweather has been charged with domestic violence six times and had served two months in jail in 2012.

Sports website Deadspin says that Mayweather has at least seven assaults against five women that resulted in arrest or citations. There are also other episodes when police were called but no charges were filed.
