3 officers hurt during vice raid 34 foreign women arrested in Penang

Three immigration enforcement officers in Malaysia suffered cuts from glass shards on Saturday when two women, believed to be drunk, smashed several bottles on the table during a raid at an entertainment outlet in Gurney Drive, George Town, Penang.

Shouting in Mandarin, the women from China went berserk when the enforcement officers tried to handcuff them for failing to show their travel documents.

State Immigration Department operations chief Fairuz Ismail said the team raided the entertainment outlet to check on alleged vice activities, reported The Star.

"Several women tried to provoke us by smashing beer bottles on their table, and threatened our officers.

"Three officers sustained minor injuries, but we managed to control the situation.

"We believed that the women were drunk and lost control of their senses," he told a press conference after the 12.15am raid on Saturday.

Mr Fairuz said six Chinese women and five Vietnamese women, aged between 18 and 35, were arrested.

He said the 35-year-old owner would be probed for employing and harbouring illegal immigrants.

In Butterworth, 23 foreign women - two Thais, seven Chinese and 14 Vietnamese - were arrested at an entertainment outlet in Bandar Perai Jaya for similar offences.
