Man kills son over studies in Japan
A father in Aichi prefecture, Japan stabbed his 12-year-old son to death with a kitchen knife after complaining that the boy was failing to study, media reported yesterday.
The boy, Ryota, was taken to hospital on Sunday, but died from loss of blood, Aichi prefectural police told AFP.
Kengo Satake, 48, told police that he "argued with his son for not studying" before the boy's private high school entrance exam, public broadcaster NHK reported.
Satake was arrested after police got a call from hospital staff, he said.
He reportedly told police he had stabbed his son "by mistake."
Ryota had been aiming to enter one of the leading private schools in Aichi prefecture and his father had regularly scolded him over his studies, NHK said, citing people with knowledge of the family.
His mother was at work when the incident occurred, the Asahi Shimbun newspaper reported.
