Porn star accused of rape, assaulting adult film actresses

This article is more than 12 months old

James Deen is a big name in the porn industry. In fact, he's one of the most popular male stars in adult film.

His boyish good looks, clean-cut image and public persona as a feminist have earned him the reputation as the industry's sweetheart.

He even come close to breaking into the mainstream after he featured alongside Lindsay Lohan in Paul Schrader's 2013 film, The Canyons.

His slim build has seen him pitched him as an unusual type of porn star. Not the muscle bound gym rat but the nice guy next door.

So it was a shock to many when his ex-girlfriend, fellow porn star Stoya, claimed on Twitter that he had raped her.

Stoya tweeted on Saturday (Nov 28): "That thing where you log in to the internet for a second and see people idolizing the guy who raped you as a feminist. That thing sucks."

She added: "James Deen held me down and ****** me while I said no, stop, used my safe word. I just can't nod and smile when people bring him up anymore."

Deen, whose real name is Bryan Sevilla, refuted the claims in a series of tweets the following day.

The 29-year-old American, who has been in the adult film industry for 11 years, wrote: "There have been some egregious claims made against me on social media.

"I want to assure my friends, fans and colleagues that these allegations are both false and defamatory.

"I respect women and I know and respect limits both professionally and privately."

DENYING

But while Deen is denying the allegation, more porn actresses have publicly accused Deen of sexual assault.

Former porn actress Tori Lux claimed he once grabbed her by the throat, shoved her onto a mattress, pinned her down and slapped her hard after she refused to indulge his sexual request off the set, The Daily Beast reported.

Adult actress Ashley Fires claimed he crossed the line after he came behind her after she got out of the shower at a porn studio and "almost raped" her.

Fires said that after that, she refused to work with him.

Industry veteran Joanna Angel, who dated Deen in the past, wrote on Twitter: "He’s dead on the inside and dead to me. He’s literally the worst person I’ve ever met. That’s all I’ll say for now. #SolidarityWithStoya."

Adult actress Sydney Leathers claimed Angel told her to "avoid him – that he has boundary issues, basically that he tries to break women".

She added: "I took it to mean that he is dangerous."

Even other male porn stars have voiced their opinion of him.

I've seen first hand how mean and belittling he is and can be. These accusations are just. Total human garbage.

Stoya, who has written for Vice, The Verge, and the New York Times, has not said anything on Twitter since.

News website Philly.com wrote that she has not filed charges against Deen.

Deen's reputation is in tatters.

His regular sex advice column for The Frisky has been terminated. His most frequent employers have cut ties with him.

He has also resigned from his chairman position on the board of directors of Adult Performer Advocacy Committee.
