Schoolgirl molest case: Teen arrested
A 19-year-old suspect who allegedly attempted to molest an eight-year-old schoolgirl in Malaysia surrendered to police on Thursday after three days in hiding, The Star reported.
Terengganu Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Abd Aziz Wan Hamzah said the teen arrived at the Dungun district police headquarters with his father at 4.15pm.
The suspect has been arrested and will be remanded for investigations.
Earlier that day, the police had urged the suspect's parents to persuade their son to turn himself in.
The victim's parents had lodged a police report on Wednesday when her teacher told them of the incident.
The girl said the teen had coaxed her to follow him into the school's storeroom.
Suspecting something amiss, the girl refused to enter and that was when he carried her and she screamed.
The suspect then fled by climbing over a wall, The Star reported.
Closed-circuit television cameras had captured his face.
