Sukarno's daughter arrested over alleged treason

JAKARTA: The daughter of Indonesia's first president, Mr Sukarno, has been arrested over alleged treason, according to her lawyer.

"Yes, she has been arrested. Police officers arrived at her home at 5am and took her at 6am," said Rachmawati Sukarnoputri's lawyer Aldwin Rahardian yesterday, reported kompas.com.

Mr Aldwin said he was with his client, who was being questioned at the National Police Mobile Brigade headquarters in Kelapa Dua, Depok, West Java.

Besides Rachmawati, Mr Alwin also saw musician Ahmad Dhani questioned at the headquarters. He was reportedly arrested along with other activists, including Ratna Sarumpaet and Sri Bintang Pamungkas, at a hotel in Central Jakarta on Thursday.

National Police spokesman Inspector General Boy Rafli Amar confirmed yesterday that eight activists had been arrested for alleged treason. - THE JAKARTA POST/ANA
