Zouk will stay at Jiak Kim Street for one more year

​Singaporean clubbers can breathe a sigh of relief. Zouk is here to stay - for at least one more year.

The authorities announced on Thursday that the iconic club will be allowed a year-long extension on its lease at Jiak Kim Street that ends at the end of this year.

If Zouk is able to secure an alternative location by June next year, they will be given a final extension up to Dec 31 2017 to "complete its location", said the Singapore Land Authority (SLA), Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) in a joint statement.

"An extension of up to 2017 will give Zouk sufficient time to undertake renovations or to plan and construct a new structure to house the club at the new site, and relocate thereafter," said the authorities.

It also acknowledge in the statement Zouk's contribution to the "strengthening of Singapore's reputation in the international entertainment scene".

But it noted that the concerns faced by neighbours, who have complained about the littering and noise polution in the area.

Singaporeans will definitely have another reason to party this weekend following this good news, given their support for the clubbing hotspot.

SaveZouk, an online campaign that was launched in June, has since amassed more than 40,000 signatures in two months.​
