Oct 17 South Africa (Fairview) form analysis
Mercantour can make a clean sweep of Poly Challenge
Race 1 (1,200m)
(8) TIMELINE showed improvement on local debut and could go one better this time. It is a very open-looking race as a lot of them are trying this surface.
(7) MISS TAKES is also capable of getting involved with the finish.
(6) MIO DESTINO is threatening to win a race and would not be a surprise winner.
(10) SALAGADOOLA finished a close second over 1,400m last time. Watch her.
Race 2 (1,600m)
(2) PIBE DE ORO did not show his best with blinkers on last time. They have been discarded, and he can bounce back to win.
(3) PROLIFIC STAR and (4) STAND UP are both in good form and in with a winning chance.
(5) GREY WARRIOR might like this shorter distance and can make the frame.
(1) TWO FOR THE BOYS can improve after a modest local debut.
Race 3 (1,600m)
(6) GREEN ISLE clearly likes this course and distance. She looked an unlucky loser last time when third over the same trip.
(1) FAMILY POWER was a game winner last time and a 4kg claimer could get another win out of her. She clearly likes this surface.
(3) STATE SECRET is consistent and is capable of contesting the finish once again.
(7) GINGER DELIGHT put in a pleasing effort last time and can do even better.
Race 4 (1,600m)
(3) EAST COAST GIRL impressed on local debut and could well follow up.
(1) WISHES AND DREAMS is seeking a hat-trick of wins after two nice victories. She carries a six-point penalty after her latest success, but she could well win again.
(2) HAZE AND SMOKE showed what she is capable of with a good win last time, and that rival has won since. It is her first try on this surface.
(7) PRESERVE FOREVER likes the Polytrack and could earn some more money.
Race 5 (1,600m)
(2) MERCANTOUR has won the first two legs of the Nelson Mandela Bay Racing Polytrack Challenge rather impressively and there is no real reason to think he cannot pull off this final leg. The Alan Greeff-trained 6YO did not win in any of his three tries on turf over this distance, but jockey Richard Fourie does know how to get the best out of him.
(3) BRENDEN JAMES has impressed lately with some nice wins on this surface fitted with blinkers and is not out of it.
(1) BINGWA has not been at his best this year, but is weighted to win and should be a threat over this course and distance.
(5) MR FOX has ability and is another one that can get involved with the finish.
Race 6 (1,800m)
(10) RICHARDTHEFEARLESS has shown improvement lately. He is suited to this course and distance, and should run well in a very open handicap.
(7) ONE RELIGION is in good form and not out of it.
(5) ROLL OF THE DICE is a dangerous front-runner when allowed a soft lead.
(2) RED WILLIAM has won his last three starts and deserves respect for that.
(1) HEEMSTEDE showed improvement last time and has a couple of wins over this surface, so he could be a threat.
Race 7 (1,400m)
An interesting race.
(1) GUY GIBSON has looked unlucky not to have won either of his two local races. He can go one better.
(8) VULCANITE, however, is weighted to beat him if she shows what she is capable of. The Kelly Mitchley-trained 4YO returns from a break and tries the Polytrack for the first time, but she has been running in top races all year.
(4) HAIR TRIGGER won a good race last time, but tackles stronger this time.
(5) ABOVE THE HORIZON clearly likes the Polytrack and can contest the finish. One of the few that can threaten.
Race 8 (1,300m)
A very competitive last race.
(2) CHERRY OH BABY won on this surface last time and could follow up now under the care of trainer Greeff.
(1) KING VISERYS is bidding for a hat-trick after some solid wins.
(13) KING RAHUL is capable of running well over this track and trip.
(4) HOSPICES DE BEAUNE is unreliable but clearly not out of it.
(5) CAPTAIN CLEVER improved to win last time out and could be better than rated.
