Chance to learn from Faldo in Bintan

Come Nov 3 and 4, golfers here would be able to pick the mind of six-time Major winner Nick Faldo, one of the sport's legends, in a golf clinic at the re-opening of the Laguna Golf Bintan on the Indonesian island.

The launch of the 18-hole, par-72 course, which offers a stunning view of the South China Sea, is held in conjunction with the launch of the SPH Golf Card.

Country manager Tan Teck Lee is among the golfers who are keen to take up the two-day package, which includes ferry tickets, an overnight stay at either the Banyan Tree Bintan or the Angsana Bintan, as well as two rounds of golf with green fees.

Tan said: "I am definitely excited to go back to the Laguna again; the last time I was there was about five years ago, and I remembered that the course maintenance was very good and the greens were very fast."

"It'd also be good to hear what a pro like Nick Faldo can share to improve my game," added the 46-year-old, who is trying to get together a group of eight friends to form two flights.

At 6,890 yards off the back tees, the Laguna Golf Bintan offers a mix of challenging holes and a few offering risk-reward birdie chances, with golfers teeing off from a spectacular natural rock formation, perched high above the sea, on the 17th hole.

Paul Wilson, group director of golf for Laguna Golf, said: "The layout of our course in Laguna Bintan is remarkably strong in terms of design and playability.

"Our main focus of this project has been restoring the green complexes to their original size and structure while giving emphasis to the enhancement of the natural surroundings, such as highlighting the beachfront, and accentuating the natural rock formations and dense jungle."
