Cue Biado and Kiamco

The Philippines pair of Carlo Biado and Warren Kiamco were on fire yesterday, winning gold in the men's nine-ball pool doubles event at the 2015 South-east Asia (SEA) Games at the OCBC Arena.

The pair vanquished the Vietnamese tandem of Hoang Quan Do and Anh Tuan Nguyen 9-6 in a slick performance in the final, hours after ending Singapore hopes when they defeated Toh Lian Han and golden boy Aloysius Yapp 9-5 in the semi-finals.

"It feels really, really good to win the gold medal," said Biado.

"At Myanmar in 2013, the only medal I went home with was a silver, so to go one better this time is just great.

SWEETER

"To win it in a doubles event also makes it sweeter.

"A doubles event requires you to cooperate and work out a strategy, and that's what we did."

In the opening couple of frames against the Singaporeans, it looked like Biado and Kiamco were in trouble, but they recovered quickly.

"When we faced Singapore, we had no fear," said Kiamco.

"We started really badly, going 2-0 down at the beginning.

"But we didn't give up. We pushed on and kept doing what we do best.

"And today, we did the same. So you can see the pattern - when you work hard, you get the results."
