Jenson Button and Jessica Michibata call quits on marriage

Jenson Button and Jessica Michibata have called it quits after just a year of marriage.

The couple were wed in Hawaii last year but remain on good terms despite the decision to split.

A spokesman for the McLaren Formula 1 driver said: "Jenson and Jessica have decided to go their separate ways and it is very amicable. There is no one else involved."

The 35-year-old Briton met Argentine-Japanese model Michibata, 31, in 2008 and have been an item ever since bar a period in 2010 when they broke up for a while.

Jenson proposed to Michibata on Valentine's Day last year and confirmed their marriage with a tweet on New Year's Eve.

While the news caught many F1 fans by surprise, the 2009 F1 champion revealed in September that he and Michibata had not moved in together because of their different work schedules.

Then, Button told the Mail Online: "We don’t see each other any more than before we were married.

"Jessie still works a lot in Japan. She enjoys her job, she models, she had a television show and has just done a Japanese film.

"She enjoys working, which is great, but obviously it means that we don’t see each other very often. We’re definitely not settled in Monaco together, not yet."
