King to meet queen David

New Zealand's Joelle King is through to the Commonwealth Games women's squash semi-finals, after a 3-0 win over Northern Ireland's Madeline Perry yesterday.

The New Zealander had a solid outing to beat Perry 11-6, 11-4, 11-6, and will now face Malaysia's world No. 1 Nicol David.

King, the world No. 4 and third seed in Glasgow, was beaten in the quarter-finals in New Delhi four years ago. She insisted she was not intimidated at the prospect of facing the world's best player.

Said the 25-year-old: "It was a really complete performance. Madeline was tenacious and fought back; I'm just really glad I was able to hold my concentration, hold on to what I was trying to do and finish that game in three.

"I've just got to concentrate on what I'm trying to do. When I focus on that and play how I want to play I can beat anyone.

"I'm really excited to be in the semi-finals, but, I'm just trying to take it as any other game, not over-play it and just come back on Sunday to do the same thing again. I'm just stoked to still be playing." - AFP.
