Newitt to start Kranji stint on Friday

In considering a request by jockey Craig Newitt, the Singapore Turf Club has agreed to bring forward the commencement of his six-month contract to tomorrow.

Already granted a visiting jockey's licence from Jan 1 to June 30 June, the Australian jockey has now been extended an earlier start.

It will see him licensed to ride in the last two Singapore race meetings on Friday and Sunday.

His early commencement is with a view to keeping his fitness level at its peak and be prepared for the new season.

On Nov 16, Newitt flew in to ride and finish sixth on Goodman in the $1.35 Group 1 Longines Singapore Gold Cup over 2,200m. That day, he scored his first Kranji winner aboard the Stephen Gray-trained newcomer Emperor James.
