Nunes rides Titanium like the best horse
Champion jockey Manoel Nunes certainly rode the well-fancied TITANIUM with a great dose of confidence.
Although he had only two horses behind him on settling down in the Class 4 Div 2 race over 1,200m, the Brazilian jockey (above) bided his time, as Captain Kirk scorched to the lead from Powernova and Kaiser. He only clicked his mount up on straightening but he still looked to have a big task ahead as Powernova had kicked well clear with 200m to go.
But Titanium responded to Nune's vigorous riding and put the strong bounds to get up to win by a head in a good time of 1min 09.87sec.
Said Nunes: "I took my time with him as he had 58kg on his back. I didn't want to rush him early.
"He was fresh and trialled really well last week. We were only worried about the weight and the distance. I think he needs more ground. 1,600m would probably be good for him."
